“ Proper Black Country legend! famous orange chips are crispy, perfection – pure nostalgia in every bite. Fresh cod, massive portions, and friendly staff who know their stuff. Best chippy tea around, no contest. Yam yam approved ”

“ Having heard so much about the famous orange chips in the Black Country, I had to give them a try, so I stopped by Majors Fish and Chips in Bilston. Upon entering, the first thing I noticed was a bit of a queue, and quite a few people seated at tables, clearly enjoying their meals. The shop itself was tidy and spacious, and the staff were both polite and welcoming. I opted for the Monster Cod, which came in a nice crispy batter, cooked in beef dripping. The fillet was impressively large. The orange chips, which I had been curious about, are essentially regular chips coated in a light batter mixed with food colouring, giving them their distinctive bright orange hue. They were plump, crispy, and served in generous portions. It seems all the chips sold there are orange chips, so even the cheesy chips were made from these, and they were delicious. The pea fritters were also generously sized, coated in crispy batter. I particularly enjoyed the thick, flavourful curry sauce, to which I added a few spoonfuls of scraps for some extra crunch. I finished off the meal with a deep-fried battered Snickers, rounding out a satisfying experience. “ Ordered from Majors today for eat in. Staff were friendly and there was nice seating area available. The Donner kebab was nice. Their chips need improvement. Despite being made "fresh" they tasted almost stale or refried. They were very hard on both the outside and the inside. I made staff aware and they did go the extra mile to give us new ones. I can't complain with the service. They did give us better chips, however we still had the same issue where the chips tasted very hard. Majors are known for battered chips and I expected them to be alot better. I don't think I will be coming back for their chips after this. ”
